Helping some new soapmakers begin their journey

This morning I taught another session of the Hands-On CP Soapmaking Lab at The Nova Studio in Point Richmond. This gives new soapmakers a chance to make some soap together (which is always more fun anyway) and have some guidance to get them through any trouble spots.  I also often find myself sharing all kinds of tips, tricks and suggestions.

It was a beautiful, sunny day and the three students were brimming with enthusiasm, having just spent the weekend at the Soapmaking Boot Camp with Lori Nova.

We went through all the steps, including the dreaded “making of the lye”.  And all agreed that it wasn’t nearly as bad as they had feared.

At look at the results! Can you believe that these are the first batches of soap that these students had ever made? Gorgeous!

It was a lovely way to spend a Monday morning. And many thanks to my two TAs, Mimie and Louise, who contributed tons of help and experience to our newbie soapmakers!

  1. Thanks so much for letting me share such a marvelous day. I loved seeing each student master the soapmaking technique, and then go on to express their creative side!

And (for those who haven’t been there) – Pt. Richmond is such a cute town, and Nova Studio is a great place to (make / learn to make) soap.

My kitchen has the marvelous smell of Oatmeal Almond Calendula Soap today! Yummmm!
